Should schools punish students for taking nude photos of themselves then exchanging them online or by texting?

I think its none of the schools business and they should stay out of the students personal life. Even if its done on school property i think the schools should stay out of it.

What do you think?

Yes as porn is against school rules. You can say the same thing about drugs and guns to.
It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt and kileed over it.

IDK. I think if I were a principal, I would not allow them to do it on school property. The schools around here don’t allow students to have cell phones anyhow, so it isn’t an issue here.

No, it’s not the school’s business at all.
The teachers and principles are not the students parents.

I agree with you 100%. They shouldn’t be able to punish a student for their personal lives. It’s NOT their business.

I understand when you’re older though there’s naked pictures of you floating around the internet, texts, that you shouldn’t get a job. It was your choice to do that, and now you pay the consequences.

If it was done a school computer yes. If it was done between students on their own cell phones that sounds like an issue for the parents.

I think students should worry about making good grades, not sending nude photos to each other.

That is one of the reasons most of these kids are so dumb.

In some places its illegal, a school could get sued for it if they were caught, so I would ban it if I was a principal. Some schools ban phones entirely,, and filter their internet connections too. But students should be able to do what they like outside school, and it would be their parents’ problem if anything bad happens

I agree that they should stay out of it because it’s none of their business what their students do in their personal life. But if they are taking the pictures at school, on school property, or using the school computers to post them then that makes it the schools business, doesn’t it? If people were using your front/back yard to take nude photos or make a porno, would it be your business? Lol.

NO! if you out of school it’s your own business if you want to show off your body or not!!!!!!!!!!!!

The school can only get involved if its during the school day, on the schools property, or before you get home from school.

f*ck no, like wat u said its not the schools business, its our life not their’s, besides they have no right to do that, by looking at each students email, text, etc. they are invading our privacy and i think we could sue them right? well if i could sue them, i would, no doubt about that. if its done in the school yeah, but if its done at home or a friends house then no.

i agree. it’s none of the faculty’s business as to what kind of pix are being sent. it’s no one’s business (not work, not school, no one) except yours and the person you’re sending the picture to.

at my high school if we were caught texting, we had to turn our phone in but we had to keep it on, and if the phone was locked we would be called up to unlock our phone. our admin. actually looks through the texts and pictures which is ridiculous. i like to call it invasion of privacy, but i guess they don’t see it as an invasion of privacy. kids actually got expelled and suspended for having dirty pix and dirty text messages.

    Sorry. You’re wrong.

The school can and will be held responsible for what happens under its roof, and as such gets to make the rules.

Incidentally, texting nekkid pics may just be the most monumentally stupid thing a kid can do.

The school has no right to be barging in on students personal lives. If students want to take nude pics of themselves, so be it, Its wrong, hell yeah, but if they want creepy/perverted ppl looking at their naked bodies, again so be it. The students are doing wrong stuff, but they are not doing it at the school. The schools should focus on more important things, then wasting their time, wondering what all the students are up to in their personal time!

    I agree.

IF the school could be held partially responsible, I believe they have a right to have a policy against it. (Now, that being said- I don’t believe the schools should be held responsible for such things).

Well when i was in school this guy took a picture of girls getting dressed in the changing rooms(Without there knowledge)!
In a case like that the school should have every right to punish!

But for private use how should they find out? And if the people in the pic’s agreed to it then the school should stay out of it!

absolutely a punishable crime. it’s a matter of principles for all principals to punish imprudent pupils AFTER perusing and photocopying the photos!

They shouldn’t be disciplined for that in and of itself but:

If it means they are not paying attention in class, they should be disciplined for that. If the school has a rule about texting in class, they should be disciplined for that, but the content should be irrelevant as long as it’s legal. (see below for illegal)

If it is believed they have broken some law, it should be reported to the appropriate authorities.

If a student thinks their rights of privacy have been violated, the school should defer that student to the appropriate authorities.

This question obviously was inspired by the recent Michigan case

I think schools should stick to education, let parents deal with the morality of their underage kids and let law enforcement authorities deal with any potential illegal actions.
