if i have verizon unlimited texting for my cell phone, can i only text other people with verizon for free? or for example, can i also text someone with nextel for free?

well lets put it this way,if ur bill says the following

unl in w/ 1500 then u get unlimited text messages for everyone that’s in verizon and 1500 to use to send/receive for other ppl that have other carriers like nextel.

now if ur currently on nationwide select. or u have unlimited txting. then ur good. bc its all unlimited.

Question about texting and IM’ing with nextel?

Posted by admin on March 3rd, 2010 and filed under nextel texting | 2 Comments »

This is a little confusing so i’ll try and explain as best as possible. I don’t have a data or text msging plan so every text and kilobyte is costing me. Looking at my bill it says i’ve exceeded my limit by 21 messages and exceeded my data by 1219 kb. I’ve been using mobile aim which has been racking up my kb and txt’s. So here’s my question according to this forum discussion ( http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/884711-1.html ) WAP AIM doesn’t use sms and is strictly just using the internet or data service and the Java version is strictly just SMS and not the internet. then why am i being charged for both SMS text’s and data if i’ve just been using one?? I should only be charged for the data and using the web. Or does the mobile aim use both SMS and data service? I have IM forwarding turned on but when i realized i was being charged i turned it off, does that have anything to do with it???

Thanks all.

You’re going to be charged for any text message you send and/or receieve. I have Nextel and for only $3, $5, $7 or $10, you can add a plan to cover text messages. It all depends on how many you plan to send. Check it out online and call the direct number to Nextel customer service to set it up. I promise it will be a lot cheaper!

Do I get the same features with a Nextel phone on Boost Mobile network?

Posted by admin on March 1st, 2010 and filed under nextel texting | 1 Comment »

When I use the Nextel phone on the Boost Mobile network, will I get the same features as I would with the Boost Mobile phone, such as, internet, texting and walkie-talkie?

The everything plan on a boost is the same as the Sprint everything plan except way cheaper. Its like 30 dollars a month and you get unlimited talk, text, internet, and chirp. I’m not sure what else Sprint has to offer under the Nextel Brand, but as far as I know, that pretty much sums it up.

How do I get my incoming Nextel text messages to display the sender’s name?

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2010 and filed under nextel texting | 1 Comment »

I have to memorize everyone’s phone numbers so I know when they’re texting me, because instead of showing their name it shows their number. And I also can’t choose to text anyone from my address book – I have to remember their number then go in an type it in myself. I’ve had nextel a year and can’t find a way to solve these problems?
PLEASE HELP!!

In order to answer this I am making several assumptions, which may be innacurate however I am working with the information you have provided. The assumptions are:
1) your problem is witth a mobile phone
2) Nextel is a mobile phone service provider, not an physical phone (hardware).
3) Nextel are a GSM digital network in the USA

Now for my answer:
The service provider does not have access to the phonebook (contacts list) in your mobile. A text message is sent from the source across the network with the senders number (sometimes) attached. When your phone receives the message, it will look in the phone for any contacts that match that number and convert it. The reverse happens when sending from your phone.

However, there is a digital barrier between the data stored on the phone memory chip and the SIM memory chip, and the SIM can store contacts, and can be accessed through the phonebook, but the chipset design does not automatically check the SIM for contacts that may be the contact who you are sending to or receiving from. It will only check the memory of the phone. So if you want to have those contacts accessible through that feature, transfer the contacts in your SIM to your phone.

Beware: If you ever choose to upgrade your phone, or change service providers, and want to keep your contacts, you will need to alter these options before interchanging physical components.

Each phone’s menu system is different, so I cannot advise you on which buttons to press to make the transfer, so I suggest you walk into your local phone retailer, preferably one that deals in the phone make and model you own (regardless of their network promotions – they may try and convert you to their service, but like to be seen by other customers in the store as willing to help a non-customer). The network you are with should have no bearing on the ability to transfer contacts, or the way in which this is done.

Good luck

Can you change a nextel phone into an AT&T phone?

Posted by admin on February 23rd, 2010 and filed under nextel texting | 1 Comment »

My dad has a blackberry that is a little disfunctional, but mostly because its service is provided by Nextel. His calls always drop and the texting is terrible. So, I was wondering, is it possible to change the phone’s format to make it compatible with AT&T or Verizon? Thanks.

Isnt Sprint-Nextel CDMA?

AT&T= GSM

GSM phones have sim cards
CDMA don’t

if your dad’s phone is CDMA theres no way that it can work with AT&T

sorry.. :)

Can you use a Verizon Wirless phone (the EnV) on Nextel service?

Posted by admin on February 21st, 2010 and filed under nextel texting | 4 Comments »

I like the EnV phone because its really great for texting but I have a Nextel service. Is there any way that I can keep my Nextel service while using the EnV?

No, Nextel uses a technology called iDen. Verizon (and sprint) use CDMA. No sim cards with CDMA. I had nextel, but I was sick of them billing me hundreds a month for no reason, I switched to veirizon. Much better. They also have Walkey-Talkey phones if thats what you need.

What types of nextel should i be looking at if i want a phone mainly for on -the-go internet access?

Posted by admin on February 19th, 2010 and filed under nextel texting | 1 Comment »

I plan on doing a little texting and a little talking, but i want it mainly to be able to use the internet what type of nextel phone do you suggest and how much is the internet access monthly?

I have a Blackberry 7520 on Boost Mobile which is Nextel’s prepaid service, it is actually a Nextel phone, I don’t have any Blackberry data service so the built-in email and web browser do not work, but I installed the newest Opera Mini web browser and I surf the net like an iphone, I also installed Gmail so I can email from my phone, I have an IRC program that lets me chat in millions of chat rooms, there is also Yahoo ICQ AIM MSN and other messengers available..and the phone has a full QWERTY keyboard, believe it or not I paid $1.25 on eBay plus $7 shipping for the used Blackberry 7520 and I used the sim card out of my Boost i415, I never even subscribed to Boost data plan which is only .35ยข per day, but I don’t even get charged for that so I only pay the minimum $20 every 3 months to keep it all going.
